Summer 2014 Conclusion

Welcome (And Obligatory SPOILER ALERT)

Here we are with yet another review-esque post. Below this I'll list off all the summer anime that I have completed (in alphabetical order), with the exception of a few that are ongoing into fall. The ones bolded I will go more in-depth on whereas the others I'll briefly write about. Hope that you've enjoyed your summer season of anime, and without further ado I'll hop right into it.

Akame ga Kill!

I think that there are a lot of varying opinions of Akame ga Kill! Many people seem to like it because of how "brutal and dark" it is. Then there are people who dislike the way that comedy is added in at times and it gets in the way of what could be a good anime.

What I think is that Akame ga Kill! is fine the way it is. I don't hold anything against the comedy that is included and I am relatively engaged in the story. The funny thing is that I actually didn't think too highly of this anime when the first few episodes came out, but it's grown on me.

OP is nice, and ED is fantastic. Besides that nothing else stands out for me.

24 episodes. I'm actually quite glad for this because it gives a chance for the anime to become a lot better. Like many others I'm hoping that this will be something that I can remember and come to really like.

As of now the story is going somewhere, and I hope it stays that way. The episode preview for today looked pretty interesting, as if seems that Tatsumi and Esdeath end up some random place and have to get to work together.

Best Girl: Chelsea/Esdeath

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun

This was actually the best anime of the season (for me at least). Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun is a great comedy/romance anime and I just can't get enough of it. It's a huge shame that it's ended, as I really liked it.

It had amazing comedy and timing, along with fun, lovable and engaging characters. The OP was upbeat and catchy, with a pretty decent ED. Everybody's pushing for the actual romantic ending, but instead we get what Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun has delivered this whole time. Laughs.

This anime does not disappoint. It left me playing the ending (the very very very ending, after the credits) over and over again, laughing my head off. I can only wish that everything was like Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun.

Best Girl: Sakura Chiyo

Glasslip

I had a tough time getting through Glasslip. While it got a little bit better with each episode, that isn't saying much since I was pretty close to dropping it. In the ending everything comes together and I felt that Glasslip didn't really deserve a 5 on my MAL. If something had changed, and I mean like a huge change, then maybe, just maybe I could have enjoyed it. But the way it is right now, well, I just didn't feel like watching episodes as they came out. On a positive note, the OP was nice.

Best Girl: Touko Fukami (she doesn't really deserve Best Girl, but out of all them I'd chose her)

Haikyuu!!

Volleyball anime. I play volleyball, so it was apparent that I was going to enjoy Haikyuu!! And I wasn't left hanging. It was a good watch, and I'm really hoping for a season two. There isn't really much else for me to say here. If you liked stuff like Kuroko, then maybe you'd be into Haikyuu!!

Best Girl: Shimizu Kiyoko (Manager-san)

Hanayamata

Uhm. Kawaii girls doing kawaii things (like dancing yosakoi) is how I would sum up Hanayamata. The anime is hard to get into in the beginning but eventually the pace picks up. There wasn't anything I particularly liked or disliked about this anime. Overall just your typical kawaii anime.

Best Girl: Tami Nishimikado

Locodol

Locodol is more or less on the same wavelength as Hanaymata. It's about two girls from a small town who become these sort of local idols (hence the name). If there was another anime I had to say that I didn't look forward to, it was probably Locodol. A pretty average watch, something not needed for this season.

Best Girl: Yukari Kohinata

Mahouka

Started as a "oh what the hell" type of thing because of incest. Slowly grew to dislike and hate the anime. Then for some reason the last episode really got me. Maybe it was the hint of a second season. Maybe it was because of the new aunt character. Hell, maybe it was just because I wanted something silly to watch. But for whatever reason Mahouka didn't leave as bitter a taste in my mouth as what I had initially expected.

Best Girl: Mayumi Saegusa

Rail Wars!

Mindless ecchi with some action scenes. I think I learned a bit about trains from this, but not much. OP and ED were painful for me to listen to, but that's just me.

Best Girl: Holy god do I actually have to pick; Haruka Koumi

Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!?

Before I say anything more about Rokujouma no Shinryakusha!? let me tell you that I actually enjoyed it, because what I'm about to say next may sound like I'm bashing it.

I thought that this anime definitely could have been a lot better (fingers crossed for a season two). Because of the sheer amount of characters I think there just wasn't enough air time to go around for everybody. This is why I'm really just hanging in there for the second season. The comedy is somewhat bland at times, but I mean, it really just is a harem at the end of the day.

OP and ED both good stuff.

Best Girl: Harumi Sakuraba

Serei Tsukai no Blade Dance

WATCH FOR LOLIS OBTAIN BLUSHES AND CUTE SOUNDS IGNORE FIGHT SCENES.

Best Girl: Fianna Ray Ordesia

Sword Art Online II

Hell of a lot better than season one (at least the latter half of season one) is what I can say. With the latest episode I can actually say that it's getting interesting and I'm looking forward to episodes. Hoping that the whole Death Gun arc will end sometime soon and usher in a new arc, because they could do something nice with it.

OP is meh, ED is pretty good.

I think there's a bit too much emphasis on Sinon's bottom, butt I mean what can you do about it?

Best Girl: Shino Asada

Tokyo Ghoul

To explain the ride I went on with Tokyo Ghoul, let's use a few words. Ehhhhhhhhh, then ahhhhh, then ohhhhh, then this-is-actually-good, then ehhhhh, then ehhh, and then stop-the-pain-2015. The ending made the anime fall flat on its face (in another words, a big no no). There should definitely be a season two or at least some sort of OVA to give proper closure. The whole last episode ordeal with Taneki fighting inside his head was really just a pain to watch. I mean, for another episode, sure, but NOT THE LAST EPISODE GOD ANYTHING BUT THAT.

There was definitely an interesting setup, with all the ghouls and what-not, but I think the opportunity that was given was wasted. I'm not saying Tokyo Ghoul is dreadful, but the gore and whole dark side of this anime just failed to really get to me.

Tokyo Ghoul will have a hard time becoming an anime that I will regard as "good". I've heard the manga is nice reading though. A good thing is that the OP and ED aren't half bad.

Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories 2

I think what most people think. The second season is nothing compared to the first. Not even spooky anymore. That's a shame.

Gah This Was A Big Post

Really tired now. I spent quite a bit on this.

I'm an 8 for today. School tomorrow. See you in the next post.
